CITY TO KILL GEESE IN EFFORT TO PROTECT PLANES

Posted: 2:25 am
June 20, 2009

Some 800 Canada geese were rounded up and shipped off to goose heaven this week by city and federal workers, officials said yesterday.

From Monday to yesterday, the workers penned the birds at 15 sites within five miles of Kennedy and LaGuardia airports, including Flushing Meadows and Wards Island. The geese were gassed to death in a chamber at Kennedy.

Also caught in the city-federal dragnet were two domestic geese and four domestic ducks, all of which were released.

Canada geese forced US Airways Flight 1549 down into the Hudson River in January.

I JUST LOVE IT. NOBODY WANTS HUNTERS TO HARVEST ANIMALS FOR THERE OWN FEEDING BOUNTY. I REMEMBER WHEN THE PEOPLE OF DUNE ACRES DID NOT WANT ANYBODY TO SHOOT BAMBI. BUT WHEN A FEW EXPENSIVE CARS AND BACKYARD FLOWERS GOT DESTROYED WE HAD TO HANDLE THE PROBLEM,"KILL BAMBI". NOW THERE ARE PLANES BEING DESTROYED. I AGREE THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. BUT THE VALPO AIRPORT, THE AIRPORT IN LANSING AND NOW IN NEW YORK WILL NOT GRANT HUNTERS ACCESS TO HARVEST BIRDS. WHY NOT RAISE ARE SEASON LIMITS TO MORE THAN TWO BIRDS A DAY? WHY NOT SHIP THE BIRDS TO ANOTHER PART OF THE COUNTRY? THERE HAS GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY! MAYBE WE CAN GET THEM TO DRINK SOME KOOL-AID JIM JONES STYLE. GASSING AND DESTROYING FEDERALLY PROTECTED MIGRATORY BIRDS SHOULD BE A CRIME. WHAT A WASTE OF MEAT AND BIRDS. WILD BILL.

that sounds like a load of complete bullshit to me. not just because of the waste, but because it could have been used as a small economy pick me up. don't they realize that there are hunters who would pay a small fee to do the same job, and it would not cost any public dollars.

I can tell no one that had any say in that recockulous decision was a hunter, prolly never tasted wild game either. I wonder how many pounds of meat got wasted. Don't those rich federal workers know people are starving. I am sure there are homeless who would have loved to have a fest of goose for dinner, its not like they had to be killed because they had a disease. More and more government waste, its not just tax dollars, its animals that god put on this earth for our enjoyment to. Stupid people in government make me angry.

Here's a different way to look at it......WE support, finacially, the programs to help the numbers of these animals increase. These "politicos" just took all the money that we contributed theough the purchase of our Federal Migratory Bird Stamp and flushed it down the toilet! Is there a way to find out who these morons are so that we can give them a piece of our collective minds (cuz I alone don't have that much mind to spare!"
