PRESS RELEASE
Michigan City, Indiana (April 23, 2009) – Perch fisherman from throughout the Midwest will converge on Michigan City three times during the summer for the 4th annual Chief’s Bait & Tony’s Outboard Championship Perch Series.
But this year, catching the largest perch won’t be where the money is at. For the first time, the series – sponsored by the LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau - will feature a chance to win $25,000 on a specially tagged perch.
“It’s going to be a blast and the first of many to come,” said Tony Childers, owner of Chief’s Bait and Tony’s Outboard. “It’s going to be a great event for everyone, young and old.”
The tournament will take place June 20, July 25, and August 22, with the $25,000 contest on June 20, the first day of the tournament. On Aug. 22, after the tournament fishing is over, perch caught during the tourney will be fried at Washington Park in Michigan City and eaten during an awards banquet and “feast.”
Entry fee for the three-day tournament is $10 per day with no extra charge for the tagged perch contest. Those fees will make up the prize money for the regular tournament (not the $25,000 for the tagged perch) and will also be used to pay for the awards banquet and dinner.
Cabelas is sponsoring the tournament weigh-in and will be using official state licensed scales that are owned and provided by the Coho Club of Michigan City.
For more information and to register for the tournament series visit www.intothegreatlakes.com or contact Tony at Chief’s Bait, 219.874.4086. Interested fishermen may also contact LaPorte County CVB Sports Development Manager Jason Miller at Jason@laportecountycvb.com or by telephone at 219.872.5055. _________________ www.IntotheGreatLakes.com

The $25,000 perch is being post-poned to July 25 due to the fact that the perch have not shown up hungry yet and we want to the people in the tourney to have the best chance to catch the tagged perch. We will still be having the regular tourney and will be fishing from 6-12. If you already have plans to come out and fish we would love to see you there! _________________ www.IntotheGreatLakes.com
