Took the little boat out again to long lake in Valpo. Got off work at 5 and sunset is 7:15 so I didn't have much time. Didn't get onto the lake until after 6. Fished 6-7:15. Caught nothing, not a bite. Water temp was up from Saturday morning - 44 to now 51 degrees. Threw a few Rapalas and Powerbait finess worms.

There were some noisey kids in the middle of the lake doing donuts in their V-Bottom. That probably didn't help.

I haven't fished Long Lake in years. My first thought was that there's no shoreline access and only one small ramp, so the lake doesn't get much pressure. But now I'm thinking maybe there's no pressure because the fishing there stinks. Time will tell.

well actually long lake is still a very good lake especially for ice fishin and late spring/ early summer. If your going for bass id prob try a smaller sized jig n pig back in the south west bay or the far north end. A spinner bait or black worm texas rigged also can be good choices, but i like to fish it more for gills and crappie other than bass although it has many nice bass in it. However, if your gonna fish the valpo chain and are looking to have some fun w/ some bass your better off at loomis or flint. Fished loomis yesterday landed a dozen in a couple hrs after work had 1 4lb and 2 3lbs 6 total over 14'' all on jigs. well i hope this helps a bit better luck next time.

I was hitting that South west bay pretty hard the last time I went. I try to learn from the old timers. The first time I went out there they were all hitting that Southwest bay... they must know something. I still came up empty but sometimes you have that.

I throw a lot of texas rigged worms and spinners. That's pretty much 90% of what I use. I'll give Long lake another chance later in the season on your recommendation. I've been hearing the Loomis is actually a better lake, so I'm going to hit it this weekend. I assumed since there's tons of shoreline access and a park with ramps that it got more pressure. I guess that doesn't really matter. I looked up the topo and saw that Loomis is 55' deep. That surprises me. I'll report back this weekend. Thanks for the advice Cobra.

Fixed my trailor today over at long lake boat ramp. figured since my boat was already in the water id give it a shot. My dad was w/ me so of course he brought some red wigglers along for gills because like wild bill sr. why catch something if your not gonna eat it Wink Anyways we did pretty good we started fishin a bit after 5pm till about 8pm and ended up w/ 40 nice gills and crappie. However, i did play around w/ some bass too i caught a few on a jig but most of them were chillin on there beds. Well i guess i couldn't really ask for a nicer day and it was nice being able to fish a lake like long after a horrible week at mississenawa.

I almost went to Lomis today around 5pm. I ran out of time. It was a nice ass day to be out fishing that's for sure. What size were the bass? That's my target usually.

I had three decent ones about 2lbs+ and about 6 or 7 an inch or 2 shy of 14 but it wasn't too bad.
