After my 6-deer weekend in Wisconsin during the opening weekend of rifle season, I wasn't able to get out to the woods much. In fact, Since Thanksgiving, I had only been out once. I have some land by my in-laws (out-laws) in Monticello, so I snuck-out Saturday morning before the Christmas festivities scheduled for noon. It just started to snow as I got into the stand, which made for great scenery as it got light. About 7:15, I heard something coming down the ridgeline and two does popped-out soon after. The bigger one stayed at 55 yards, keeping some brush between us. This one came in on my right, staring right at me. She got to 12 yards and stomped and tried every trick in her bag to get me to move. All the while staring right at me. Since I was still sitting and she was on my right, I had to wait until she tured to bring my gun up to take the left-handed shot. The retrieval was made tricky as I was hunting a place where 3 ravines come together. When she died, of course, she fell to the bottom of the ravines. She's not huge, but she is the first Indiana deer I've taken since 2000.
