I have been looking for a new casting real. I never really used one before. Does anyone have one or have some input on a descent model?

AWAL, YOU DONT HAVE TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY. JUST GO TO BASS PRO AND PICK ONE OUT WITH A MAGNETIC SPOOL CONTROL OR A VARIABLE BRAKE CONTROL. YOU HAVE TO PRACTICE AND YOU WILL GET SOME BIRDS NESTS WITH THE STRING. BUT WHEN YOU GET GOOD YOUR LURE PRESENTATION AND CONTROL WILL BE A LOT SMOOTHER. PUT THE TIME IN AND PRACTICE. FISHING WITH A BAITCASTER IS A BLAST, WILD BILL.

I have been fishing for a number of years but only use spinning reels. Thanks for the info, I had no idea what I was looking for!

I just starting using a baitcaster this year and man am I glad I did. I'll warn you if your just starting out get ready to be frustrated as hell with it and be ready to untangle a bunch of knots. I can't count the number of times I was ready to give up and throw the pole in the garbage. Just have some patience and pratice practice practice. I'd also say check on-line I found a few helpful videos about casting and how to get those bird nests free. As far as which reel combo to get I'm probably not the best person to get advice from. I'm using the Daiwa Megaforce reel. I read a few good things about it and the twitch bar sounded like a good idea however I'm not really happy with it. The twitch bar screws up most of the time and honestly it's more a pain the it's worth. I do like the 7:1 ratio for fast retrieves. I've been shopping around for a new set up and BPS has some nice combos deals that won't break you. You can get one from $40 on up to a few hundred. Good Luck and let us know which you get and how it's going for ya.
