I really want to be martial artist. I noticed that you need connections. And I really don't have any. And the other thing is that I'm a girl. Is a girl's body physically fit to handle the stress of doing all those martial arts moves? I haven't many women martial artists. Don't worry, I won't get offended. Just tell me facts. Personally, I believe, that a woman is rather physically weak when compared to men. Can I do martial arts and can I get tips on how to get started?

YES, YES, AND YES.
Contrary to what you may believe, martial arts is very popular among women. Northwest Indiana has many schools, some of which offer a few weeks of free training to see if that particular style is right for you. I would highly suggest you start out with something easy, like Tang Soo Do. This is one of the most low impact forms of martial arts there is. It is very traditional, however, so if you do happen to get into a fight, it probably won't be very useful. Once you get some experience, you can move into more intense forms like Jiu-Jitsu (really cool!) and if you are ballsy enough, Krav Maga (this is the REAL shit)-used by the Israeli Defense Forces. If you happen to get into a fight with someone using Krav Maga against you, good luck coming out alive, or with minimal injury. This form is designed to severely injure or kill---if its used in Israel, its good shit.
Another possibility is Kickboxing. I don't know if anyone on here is into kickboxing, but it combines both martial arts and boxing. This is really cool.
So, to conclude, yes, martial arts is very popular among women. Once you find a school, talk to the instructor beforehand and tell him/her that you are new and have no experience. They are awesome at working with you. Check your local YMCA or park district. I'm relatively new to the area, so I don't know if either offer any form of martial arts. However, please be aware that if you go through a public entity, such as YMCA or park district, the training is going to be watered down for liability reasons. If you want the "real" thing, you'll need to find a private school. I know there's a school in Valpo, I believe its on Calument Av? Not sure, but I remember seeing it.
Of all of these, I think you'll find that kickboxing is the most popular form of self defense among women.
Hope this helps. I'm not an expert though, but this is what I've concluded through some research. I started out with Tang Soo Do when I was a kid, and gave it up shortly thereafter because it just wasn't "real" enough.
Hope this helps!
