Went to Willow Slough today, myself and Bowhunter 7, boated over 60 bass biggest only 16.5" lots of fun though. Water temps from 58 at ramp to 68 at far east end, bass there were in spawning mood and just pushing baits away. Fish were caught on many different lures from worms in morning to top water when the sun came out. Also used many different baits in between, from spinner baits, x-raps, tubes, jigs, floating worms, flukes. Both of us lost a couple of really good fish and had a couple of northerns show themselves. And Yes Bassaholic with second victory, was a close battle though....
So watch out the boys from Illinois are ready to go. |

Hey Wild Bill,
Trolling motor bateries help up great, but starting battery is another issue. We only had 2 depth finders on and after 6-7 hours lost power, had to turn one off and were able to get another 2 hours, barely had enough to raise motor when finished. Troubeling since this is a new battery. Granted we did not run the big motor to charge it, but should last more than 7 hours with only 2 electronincs. Don't know if it is my battery charger or in the battery. Anyone have any thoughts?

| HEY BASSAHOLIC, COULD THERE BE SOMETHING IN YOUR BOAT THAT IS ACCIDENTALY LEFT ON THAT IS DRAWING POWER AND DRAINNING YOUR BATTERIES? DO YOU HAVE A MASTER SWITCH TO CUT OFF ALL AVAILABLE POWER WHEN THE BOAT IS NOT IN USE? MAYBE A GOOD LONG SLOW CHARGE WILL CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. WHEN YOU FISHED WILLOWSLOUGH WERE YOU UNDER POWER THE WHOLE TIME? A TWENTY ONE FOOT BASS BOAT IS PRETTY HEAVY WHEN YOU CANT USE YOUR BIG MOTOR. TALK AT YOU LATER, WILD BILL. P.S. IM GLAD YOU ARE STARTING TO MAKE YOUR BOYS EAT A LITTLE CROW WITH SOME GOOD FISH OUTINGS. YEEEEEE! |

Hey Wild Bill,
It was the starting battery not the trolling motor batteries. Yes I do have a master switch for the power, the only button on was the power button, to run both depth finders, no other lights were on for ant other items and we did not hear any motors or bilges running. I could understand it if I also had both livewells and areators running not just 2 depth finders. The starting battery was on trickle charge for over 1 week on an automatic charger that shuts off when it is fully charged, showed full charge when we left. Only thing I can think of is maybe the charger is not working right and not charging the battery.
See you in Minnesota,

Try this- charge your batteries- then take the charger and unplug in- immediately put a tester on your battery- then leave everything off and test after one day and maybe once a day during the week- if you constantly draw in the down-ward voltage- you have some type of draw- my Searay kept doing that- it's cheaper to put a main switch to kill all power and stop the draw rather than pay to find to find the draw. If you do not have a draw after you kill your main switch -it's probably your battery- Also do you have a seperate battery charger besides your onboard? Try charging it that way and do the test again-some battery chargers also have built in battery testers. also clean both contacts where you plug in, they get gummed up from the water-
Good Luck! _________________ Capt. Gar |

Hey Capt Gar,
I do charge the starting battery by itself, my on board charger is only a 3 bank for the 3 trolling batteries, I want to get another single bank onboard charger. The charger I use has a built in gauge and it showed 100% before we left and less than 50% when we put it back on after the day. I will try your advise on testing the battery. I do have a master power switch, so we will see what happens.
Thanks Capt Gar & Wild Bill for the ideas. I let you know, if not I will have to replace this new battery.
