Made it down to the Tippe after work. Wanted to close out April on a good note and get some relief from these frustrating turkeys.

I am casting about ten minutes when I miss a hit. I go right back to it and bam, nice sauger. Not a personal best, but an upper teens sized sauger. As I am walking it to shore, it comes off. The only thing I could say was oh no!!! Dropped the rod, went down to get the fish as it was sitting between my feet, but it scooted off.

I have an old small landing net that I have had since I was a kid. I drilled a hole in the handle and have a rope to tie it to my waders. It is a bit awkward though. As I was gearing up I asked myself if I needed the net, I knew I would have one get off like this one did at some time. I said, I don't need it. I asked, you sure, I reply, no. I now go back to the truck and bring the net with me.

I am going to put some of that floating noodle stuff around the handle to make it easier access I think.

I pick up a couple modest sauger. Then a dink that went back in. Then I pick up four more better ones for my first ever sauger limit. Two hours of fishing I hooked up with 8 sauger, 3 smallies, and two nice goggle eye.

Decide I want to try and do some culling and get a bigger box. Then it happens. Nice chunky eye comes to the net and ruins my limit of sauger. I thought it looked like an eye coming to the net too lol. I cast a little longer and pick up another nice eye and cull off another sauger.

When I go to cull the second sauger, I see 7 fish on the stringer. The first one I culled didn't want to leave his friends. I shoo him into deeper water and come home with 4 sauger and 2 eyes.

Smallest of the two eyes had a free jig in his belly. The larger eye had really small eggs in her. They were not very far along.
