Made it out fishing for the first time this season. Air temp this morning was 24 degrees, and water temp was a balmy 42 degrees. S-SW winds that were increasing as the day wore on. Nice chop on the water early and plenty of sunshine.
Went 2 for 4 on the fish. Blue was 1 for 2, Orange was 1 for 1, and chartreuse was 0-1.

Made it back out today.
Made it out this morning and got on my spot about 6:30. Before I can get my 3 jigs in the water, I have a bite. A nice plump walleye in the boat. First of the season. The lake was flat as a mirror.
I picked up two eyes in the first ten minutes and think I am onto something here. Then it was 9 straight smallmouth bass. Luckily the wind picked up some and gave me some chop. Fishing that shallow on a lake as clear as this one would have been tough with the blue bird skies.
I move along doing some more jigging in another location and nothing. As I swing back around to where I started, I picked up another eye. I then swing back and pick up one more. Then nothing.
I move to another spot to give it a go and quickly finish off my limit. Done before noon. Played around for another hour and nothing.
SWT 50, South wind. Color preference was Chartreuse.

After limiting yesterday I made my mind up to go out today even if the storms blew me off the water. I see that the weather people came off their forecast of early rain and were calling for afternoon T-storms possibility 30 percent. I love fishing in front of a front.
Wake up before my alarm and hit the bricks early. Motoring across the lake at 5:30 watching ball lightning a ways off hoping it follows the wind and leaves me alone.
I get to my spot at 6 and set up. I noticed the lake had rollers but there was no wind to speak of. Might have been a bad night and I might not get into them today.
Then the wind picked up and I thought they missed their forecast of 8 MPH winds today. They slowly died out too.
The lake slowly calmed down, went mirror flat, but the skies were overcast. By 7:30 I had 4 in the box. Had to sort through a lot of shorts in the process. Then the wind decided to pick back up, and change direction.
The bite died. It looked and felt like it was windier than yesterday at this point. I decided to stroll around a bit and see if yesterday's luck followed me. I make a pass and on the way back I pick up the biggest one of the day. A few more passes and nothing.
I decided to move to the last spot I hit yesterday and was hoping for number 6. Really can't leave with 5 in the box. Halfway through that trolling pass, a rod bends down, and up comes a nice keeper and I am heading to the ramp.
SWT 52 getting on, 54 getting off.
Air temp at 4 AM was 60 degrees!!!
Wind switched and the front my be here, storms are not.
All males once again.
Picked up my first largemouth bass and a few smallmouth. All were released.
Color of the day was again chartreuse. Water was not quite as clear as it was yesterday.

Got out on the lake about 530 with a SWT of 65 degrees. I get to my spot on the lake and within 10 minutes I have a keeper eye in the box. I am thinking this is going to be a good day. I could not pull up another keeper eye the rest of the day.
Lots of bass, silvers, and a couple short eyes was all I could muster. Eyes were in shallow water but on top of the break. Wind was blowing again today, but it wasn't too bad. Orange was the color of the day. All fish caught on jig and minnow.
I decided at 1130 that the garden needed tilled and I might just as well come home and get some work done so I can try another day of fishing. Lettuce and spinach is planted. Half the garage is swept, and a lot of the peppers are transplanted. Might sneak out again this week for some fishing.

Hit the river with a buddy yesterday and thanks to his help, I was able to catch my first three sauger ever. Also picked up a really nice walleye. Can't thank him enough for all his help.
It was a great night out.

Wasn't planning on going out, but my cousin and his grandson wanted to go out so I went. I swing by their place and they thought it was too cold to go. I wasn't about to go back home now, so I headed to the lake.
Surface temp was 57 degrees. A dull and dreary looking day, perfect walleye weather.
Hooked into some bass and 4 walleyes. Only 2 keeper eyes. The action was pretty fast early on, but the wind changed to the east and it started getting colder. Fish seemed to shut down. I made two more passes and drew a blank, so I headed to the ramp.
CO was there checking live wells when I docked and my fish was the only ones he'd seen all day. Most the people I seen going out was going out after 9 oclock, so perhaps it was just an early bite. Might turn back on later.
Fish were caught in 4 feet of water on white. The one short male eye I caught was really happy to see me. Might be able to still get on them post spawn males.
CO told me last week they busted a boat for being over the limit. Also said a girl caught an 18 inch perch on the big pond. Now that's a pig and should be fish of the year if she enters it.
Rumor has it the crappie bite is on at Koontz.

Made it down to the Tippe for some sauger fishing. Picked up two saugers, one crappie, and a drum that had me smiling until I seen it.
Water was high and moving fast, must have had a rain down there. I imagine that was the lightning I was watching last night.
The first sauger I caught today had what looked like a dark line down it's side. Been a nice one to keep on the stringer until he really colored up, but was too small and went back in.
All in all, it was a great day.
