My bud called me and said "lets try to squeze in some cast's before the rain gets here" OK,, lets go.. We arrived at the ramp around 6:30,, unloaded and went up river.. My bud started getting shorts right away.. Soon he had me out fished.. River is down to 20.1' tonight,, so the high water spots are starting to dissapear... We finally left the high water spot and started drifting down stream and BAM!!! I got a good hit and this fish was BULLDOGGIN me.. What a surprise,, it was a 7lb steelie.. He was ON-FIRE.. Had me spinning around the boat keeping up.. AWESOME fight!!!! Finally got him in the net,, took some pics and we were back at it.. I still didnt have the first smallie on yet???? What the heck?? My bud had atleast 6 shorts in the boat so far,, 1 was probably just over the legal 12" mark... Then all of a sudden I had a hit and it swam right towards us,, after a quick turn,, I soon found out I had a FREIGHT-TRAIN on.. Holy-smokes did this thing battle... Finally got it up to see it,, and here is this HUGE gar.. What the heck?? A GAR? Man was this fish a battle.. Then finally I started hooking some smallies.. I took a pic of the biggest,, but something happened in my camera, and it got deleted.. He was 15".. And the best part about this is,, I caught all of them on a PERCH colored SR-5

That dern GAR was a AWESOME fight!!! I was only runnin 6lb line,, so he had the upper hand... I dont know his exact length,, my measuring stick is one of those Northland stickers.. Its stuck on my gun box,, it only goes to 36".. This one was well over a foot past it. But I aint fer sure how much. O-well... Almost didnt wanna grab this dude,, he looked like one of them electric GINSU knives!!! My bud bout jumped outa the boat when this guy tried to jump in the boat during the fight.. He was a BLAST and no doubt I'll remember this fish for a while.... _________________ Feet Down!!!!! |
