SHOOTER, WILD BILL HERE. THE BEST BLACK POWDER RIFLE IS NOT NECESSARILY THE MOST EXPENSIVE ONE. YOUR AVERAGE SHOT AT A DEER IS NOT MORE THAN A HUNDRED YARDS. THERE ARE A LOT OF GUNS ON THE MARKET THAT WILL BE ACCURATE AT THESE YARDAGES. MYSELF PERSONALY I PREFER A THOMPSON CENTER ARMS ENCORE. THEY HAVE REALLY STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE WHEN IT COMES TO GUN ADVANCEMENTS. WILD BILL

Thomson is definatly a fine choice. However i bought a savage smokeless rifle last year and have nothing but high praise for it. Takes a little more time to measure the powder but there is no need for cleaning after every shot. Only cleaned mine once at the end of the season and the patch came out as white as when i ran it through. Cant go wrong with either one.

SLAPNECK, WHAT KIND OF SMOKELESS POWDER ARE YOU USING AND HOW MUCH. I HAVE BEEN USING THE PYRODEX PELLETS IN 50 GRAIN MEASURES. I HAVE NO PROBLEM MEASURING OUT POWDER, I DID IT AS A KID HUNTING FOR YEARS. I GUESS THE CONVENIANCE OF THE PELLETS IS WHY I USE THEM. I CAN SAY THAT BLACK POWDER HUNTING HAS REALLY EVOLVED THE LAST TEN YEARS WITH MAJOR STRIDES. I DEER HUNT AND BOAR HUNT WITH BLACK POWDER. AND MAY TURKEY HUNT WITH BLACK POWDER. WILD BILL

Hey wild Bill, I shoot 42 grains of vihtavouri smokeless powder along with a 150 gr. barnes ez expander bullet. I also put a nikon omega scope on the rifle, and cant say enough good things about the scope. It took a little more work with the scope because the smokeless shoots at a little higher velocity than regular pyrodex, but the reticule works just fine once the adjustments were made. Like you said the pellets are a little more convenient but I kinda of enjoy measuring my own powder.

SLAPNECK, I SEE YOU PUT A LITTLE TIME INTO YOUR BLACKPOWDER SCIENCE. BEING I LIVE IN PORTER COUNTY I HAVE BEEN USING JASPER PULASKI'S SHOOTING RANGE SINCE I WAS A KID. WHEN THE WEATHER BREAKS LET'S GET SOME GUYS TOGETHER TO BURN SOME POWDER ON THE RANGE. A HUNTER SHOULD FIRE HIS WEAPON ALL YEAR AND NOT A WEEK BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS. TALK AT YOU LATER, WILD BILL
