So we are out bluegill fishing with my 2 children (AJ-8 and Samantha - 4) this evening. We had 23 in the livewell and are heading back to the dock. We pass the "Big Point" that falls from the shore to 128-feet of water. Now, we can usually rustle-up a bass or two on this point, so I ask AJ if he wants to catch a bass real quick. We pull-up and I rig a texas-rigged power worm and make a few casts. On the third, I feel the tell-tale "tap-tap" pf a bass. I tell AJ to get ready and set the hook. I feel the bass on the line and hand AJ the rod. About 2 cranks in, the Medium/Heavy rod with 25-lb Power Pro sets a heavy bend and line starts pealing-off the reel. Puzzled, I take the rod, thinking that the hook was fouled on the bottom and the boat had drifted over it causing the tension on the rod. Wrong. As soon as I got ahold of the rod, I felt the tell-tale "thump-thump" of something large and heavy on the other end. I am really confused now as I felt the bass on the other end before I handed it to AJ. I told Sonya (wife) to get the net because whatever this was, it was really big. Of course the fish takes me under the boat so I get to negotiate the trolling motor. After a run for the deep, the fish begins to come slowly to the surface. That's when Sonya let-out an, "OH MY GOD!" What was on the line was a musky that I estimated to be at least 50". Then things got interesting. Realizing that the net I chose to bring was not, in any way going to be big enough, I got down on my knees in preparation to land this thing. During it's next foray to the surface, I realized that the musky was not hooked. Instead, this whole fight (now going on about 3 minutes) had taken place with the musky holding on to the bass that I had hooked. Another dive and a surface and I thought I might actually get a chance to land this thing. Wrong again. The third surface was the last as the musky shook it's head and released the bass. I have included pictures of the 14" bass. I am considering changing baits.........
