Finally getting a boat looking for opinions. Talked to a guy at work he pointed out this site so I figured this was a good first post. I'm seriously considering the Tracker Targa 17WT. I am drawn to this boat because it can go on smaller water like wolf lake, but still go out on Lake Michigan for perch and salmon.

Just looking for opinions there are so many different brands? Any opinions or advice are helpful.......

I think the Tracker line is a good choice. My neighbor has that same boat you are talking about.

I am actually looking at the pro guide 16.

If you are interested in a boat that is a couple years old but is still new, check out iboats.com There are many dealers here in Indiana and Illinois that have plenty of 2008 and 2009 models in their inventory.

I have a Tracker Targa 17WT. LOVE IT. It is small enough that I can launch it and re-trailer it easily by myself. I have it rigged to troll on lake Michigan and I am able to easily run 8 rods (on each side I run 2 planer boards, 1 dipsey and 1 downrigger) but also use it for my blugeill fishing. It's deep-V design makes it a safe and dry ride. Mine is a model year 2000 that I bought used in 2003. It has a 75 hp Mercury on the back wich tops-out the boat at around 35-36 mph. I took-off the stock Motorguide trolling motor (55-lbs thrust) and put on a 24-volt, 70-lb Minn Kota V2. The boat is perfect for all that I want to do. I have no complaints about it. I used to pull it behind a Datoka and have pulled it with a Trailblazer with a v6 in it. I do perfer my Ram with a V8, though.

I know, I sound like a commercial, but, for the money, this is a great boat.

Ended up getting an Alumacraft Trophy 175 with a 115 Optimax.....Hopefully I'll be able to post a pic of the first fish caught on it in the next week or so. I pick it up from Cabelas on the first.......
