This is a late post, but my time has been limited. I went on my annual trip to Wisconsin to hunt at a friend's property for the opening of rifle season. The difference this year was that my usual partner was not able to go and so I made the drive alone. The first morning, it was 26 degrees and we were socked-in with pea-soup fog.
It cleared by 10 AM and I was able to take 3 deer. I let this little guy have a pass so that I could get a chance at him in a couple of years.
On Sunday morning, the view from by stand/blind,small house was fantastic. Within 25 minuutes, 3 deer came from the right of this frame, walking left, and I was able to shoot all 3 at about 225 yards.
Lots of good deer taken by the group that weekend.
I left earlier than expected on Sunday. It was my daughter's 3rd birthday, and I wanted to get home. I gave 2 deer to the 91-year-old guy who is one of the 5 brothers we hunt with. Lots of good meat in my freezer. Good thing, the way my 3-year-old eats, she is going to be bigger than her 7-year-old brother by next year. Maybe she can field-dress my deer for me next year............. |

Thanks! We are just outside of Black River Falls in a little town called Melrose. It is in Jackson County. They shoot a SICK number of deer out of that unit (59c) every year! I am very lucky to have a friend with land there.
This is the cabin they built out of fallen timber from the property:
