|
|
A bud of mine called me and said he was going over with some of his buds to do a dove shoot. He said the guy has had a bunch of doves around his house towards evening. So what the heck,, Pigeon will go along and check it out!!
We pulled up to the guys house,, and instantly I notice that there is nothing there to attract the doves. Just a bean field on one side,, corn field on the other. But he had a nice sized mowed yard around the house. So,, we pulled up the yard chairs and coolers and all sat in a line facing the dove mojo.. None of these guys have ever hunted around a mojo before.
Instantly we had a bird dive on it and escaped unharmed.. What the heck,, how did that guy leave? Then another,, then we had a group of around 10 or so come crashing in and that was it,, these guys were hooked on the entire mojo idea. But they all kept saying "this is nothing"
All the way up until about 45 mins before time was up,, we kept getting singles and small flocks in and out on this mojo. THere was a fresh cut silage field across the street that I am sure was attracting birds to the area. And there was a nice size stand of pine trees next to that. We probably had 15 birds piled up by this time.
But wait,, right before time was up,, these birds suddenly filled the sky and were crashing in from all directions. I would bet in the last 45 mins,, there was atleast 350 rounds fired off from this group. Never have I seen sooooo many birds in 1 hunt. I am gonna just take a guess and say we saw around 1000 birds? Total caos was going on. Birds were dropping all over the place. It was all I could do,, to just keep my little princess hefer moving in all directions to try and find all the birds that were falling. AWESOME hunt!! Final score was we ended up with 45 birds and a PILE of empty shells. Sorry,, I didnt take my camera last night,, but I will take it tonight and try to get some pics!!
After we were done and ready to go home,, I could just barely get my hefer to jump up in the truck for the ride home.. She was pooped!! Then when we got home,, she just kinda slithered off the seat. When we finally went to bed,, she cuddled up beside me with her head on my pillow,, and when I woke up this morning she hadnt moved a inch and was in that exact spot!! Poor little princess got a work-out on that one!!! _________________ Feet Down!!!!! |
