I troll around a few other fishing sites and the other day I read a post that pissed me off and I wanted to know what ya'll thought. On the other site ( I won't mention the name) one of the member gave a fishing report about one of the location lakes he had fished which included some pics. He named the lake, bait and what he caught. Personally, I thought it was a great report. Most of the members gave the usual comments "looks like you had fun", "great report" and "nice pics" but then some guy new to the forum gets on and starts complaining about the report. This guy gets all worked up because the name of the lake was in the report and he thinks now everyone and their mother are going to run and start fishing the area. He slammed the guy saying he's an unethical fisherman because he POSTED the report with the NAME of the lake. The report stated he caught a few eyes, now in NWIndiana it's not hard to figure out there are only a few lakes stock with them. It wouldn't take much to find the lake even if it hadn't been named. Just pick up any DNR Fishing Mag and there's a nice artical about which lakes are stocked. Give me a break, who does this guy think he is.
Now I read this guys complaint and yes I understand his concern that some fishermen don't care about the lakes they fish and that some guys will keep any fish regardless if they meet size limits or they keep more the then min but he doesn't know the guy who posted the report. In fact the guy that posted stated that he only caught a few keepers. Personally it pisses me off when someone seems to get on a forum just to B*tch and complain. I thought the whole point of these forums was to share info about different lakes and whats hitting when where and on what bait so we all can become better fisherman. This guy also complained that the pics were posted just so the guy could brag about his catches. Well shit who doesn't like to share when they've had a good day fishing. I personally love to see the pics of other guys fish and I love sharing them with those who enjoy the sport as much as I do.
Grr.. I realise I probably should've posted this in the other forum but I really didn't want to heat things up over there but I just had to vent a little. |

I'm with you 100%. I also hit a couple of other sites, but only post here. The only reason the other guy is getting pissed is because his little honey hole has been discovered and he doesn't want to share. It's just selfish on his part. You'll have that though. I've seen a lot of intentional 'mis-direction' to keep people from catching quality fish or fishing the right spots too. It's unfortunate, but that's the way some people are. I don't fish to put food on my table. I do it for fun. I love to see what other people catch. FNG, you've been OWNING me this year fishing and you've been hitting pretty much the same spots I do. I don't get mad about it. I'm actually happy to see the pix of what you're pulling out. It's almost as good as me pulling the fish out myself - as strange as that sounds.
It's the 'Glass is half-empty' versus 'Glass is half-full' types of thinking at work here. _________________ -Kley-

| WHATS THE DIFFERENCE IF YOU PICK UP A MAGAZINE OR READ THE PAPER. YOU CAN FIND THE SAME REPORTS ON FISHING. . UNLESS YOU OWN THE LAKE YOUR FISHING ON YOU CANT CONTROL WHO FISHES IT. I TRY NOT TO LET SOME OF THE NEGATIVE THINGS IN LIFE OVERPOWER THE POSITIVE. SOME PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO PLAY NICE. WILD BILL. |

You have to consider the source- that kind of crap goes on this web site- I will yank the guy off and not allow him back on! We do it because we love the sport- It's not bragging - It's letting others enjoy pictures while they work 4-5 12 hour shifts and maybe that week can't get out. People will be selfish- as long as we have people that respect this site and have fun posting pics and relax and enjoy the friendly banter and pics - who cares about them. Just shows their jealous!
Keep posting keep enjoying the GREAT OUTDOORS! _________________ Capt. Gar |

The guy will no longer post things like that on "that other site" It is a lake stocked by the DNR with that money coming from our fishing lic. BassLakeMike was told I mean that guy was told not to do that again! _________________ www.IntotheGreatLakes.com

I just joined and did so because I like to read and learn about the fishing in the region. If you go out and catch good fish, you have your right to brag. If you want to keep the details secret, that is your prerogative. Every thing in life cycles, just like fishing, if someone else finds out that you caught a 10 lb. bass in a private pond, is it really a surprise, or if you were pitching a pier in a 1,200 acre pond? _________________ We are but the sum of our experiences. |
