|
|
The TU Gang headed to the north country this spring in early May. The fish, the Cass lake area & especially the folks at the Pike Hole B&G did not know what hit them. Weather conditions gave the biggest challange of the trip. We saw many different weather fronts & changes - from rain to snow to wind & sun. Bottom line, we saw fun as in Camp Fun!
This is a bit long - but hell we had alot to do & share. Take your time & enjoy...
Wild Bill, Rico & Gar waiting on the captain before hitting the road.
Upon arrival at the camp Saturday morning, Gar gets some practice in on the jon boat before placing it in the water.
The road crew preps the boat before launch.
Gathering in front of the fire before heading out to test the waters.
The bass gaves us the best action of the trip during daylight hours. BANG!
Gar takes one out!
Rico & Easy - double touch!
Gar goes a hoggin'
The homestead
Base Camp a.k.a. The Den
The sleds
The Godfather (Gar) holds court.
Second day we had to run out for supplies. Wild Bill insisted on taking a walk with this big dude & his blue dog.
You should see his boat!
On the water we finally had some sun and Gar started the bass attack! Bigg Ass Bass...
Hot Diggity...
HOG!
Although the conditions limited our pike action, when the sun came out - the pike got lively. Rico ain't lettin this dawg get away.
Team Colors
Capt. Ryan getting set to wade for walleye at the mouth. 1 hour & 1/2 every night. Action is non-stop!
Bit cold & windy, but E is ready.
Easy & the Wild One prepping before the kill.
The Black Knight relishing in the upcoming darkness...
Rico - Shoot to kill!
Next day, WB fileting the Wallys. Capt. Ryan took top honors the 1st night. Cool thing about fishing the "Mouth," everyone seemed to have a night of top honors. One of the best fishing experiences.
Rico had the best of both worlds - biggest walleye/biggest pike!
Weather turned. Cold, windy, nastier than sin. Worst of all - the fish turned off.
We even tried going for crappie as an alternative. After 40 minutes of good fish - they turned off too. Ryan did well. We ate these puppies.
We remedied the slow times through medication... Its all good...
More at night...
Prepping the right way... Don't look now, but Walleye Jesus is in the house!
Some of us got tired of wading through the cold water by trips end.
Eric - still pasting the big boys
Rico - not to be outdone.
We typically sat by the fire at night. Shootin the s_it, imbibing a bit and laughing till our faces hurt. The good thing about this night is the rest of the team showed up. Jigs, Hath, Doc, & Big Rog (Illinois chapter). That brought team strength to 9 (although Hath & Jigs were at the Pike Hole & Ryan was "sawing logs."). Occasionally we would have a late night nite member show up to discuss strategy. This night our local bud - Rick showed up to tip a few & add to the story telling. He is a wonderful guest & friend.
The last night for the NW Indianers. Just after a dinner of walleye, crappie, gator, & steak, the TU gang settled for a group shot.
Good friends, great fun, one more to talk about... take care... _________________ Rico

Hath,
I had a great time up there. Even with the weather the way it was, it just made it more of an adventure. Having you guys come in mid-week was needed & added to the atmosphere. Fronny's surprise appearance was the best. Although camping out on the floor the first night could have been better (adds to the adventure?). Thanks for the props. Pictures (although sometimes painful to get them) mean more than anything to me. Need to catch the moment... _________________ Rico |
