Take Mom on a family fishing trip, May 10
----
Fishing for a perfect Mother's Day gift? Sure, literally. Flowers and candy are played. Try something different-take Mom fishing.
Mother's Day is about bonding with family and celebrating appreciation for all Mom does. Sure, Mom would probably be happy enough receiving another basket of lotion, but what gift could be better than bonding with those she loves while spending a spring day soaking up the soothing effects of nature?
Fishing is a great way to combine many elements of the outdoors. Time spent fishing can also provide opportunity to observe birds, wildlife, wildflowers, and many more of Indiana's natural gifts. Spring is a special time outdoors.
Pack a lunch. Bring out the lawn chairs. Plan everything. Make sure all Mom has to do is show up and have fun. Remember, fishing isn't just about catching fish. It's fun even if no one catches any. Talking, laughing, and just spending quality time make the day.
To stack your odds in favor of catching fish, visit IN.gov/dnr/fishwild/. Explore the Indiana Department of Natural Resource's "Where to Fish Finder." This online tool provides information on fishing spots across the state.
While online, buy a fishing license for anyone who needs one. Indiana resident annual licenses are $17. A one-day license is $9. A license is required to fish in Indiana for anyone older than 16. Licenses also may be bought at most places fishing equipment is sold. The 2009 Indiana Fishing Guide also lists places to fish. The free guides are available at license vendors, DNR properties and online at IN.gov/dnr/fishwild.

New Outdoor Indiana cover shot isn't Lake Michigan
----
No. That is not a photo of a three-masted ship anchored in a Lake Michigan bay on the cover of the May-June issue of Outdoor Indiana magazine, which goes on sale Friday.
It's Lake Maxinkuckee. The ship's the R.H. Ledbetter, a square rigger that Culver Academies uses for teaching purposes. Learn more in the issue's photo essay.
The DNR Division of Nature Preserves, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, is featured in a full-length article that contains 36 color photos and tells the story of how the DNR safeguards some of Indiana's unique places and how to enjoy them.
Available at most Borders and Barnes & Noble's bookstores and many DNR properties, the 48-page bi-monthly magazine sells for $3 an issue. A subscription costs $12 for one year, $20 for two years. Single issues also can be purchased by calling (317) 233-3046. See OutdoorIndiana.org to subscribe or call for more information.

| not a bad idea.. I might have to run it by my Mom. Speaking of licenses, I heard that over 65 don't need to have them but them I heard they changed it. I don't have a DNR book so anyone know which it is? |

A fishing license and trout and salmon stamp are NOT required for:
- Residents born before April 1, 1943. However, you should carry your driver’s license or other identification to verify your age and residency |
