Hi,

I am curious to hear your thoughts if you've had the chance to fish both Vermilion and Cass. My cousin (fishing partner) and I have been going up to Vermilion for over 5 years now, staying on both the east and west side of the lake. Steadily, this lake seems to be more pressured every year we go. On top of that, we can't seem to get any type of consistent (muskie) action there. Anyway, my lack of success on Vermilion is better left for another thread. Cass seems to be roughly the same distance from Chicago and it seems you folks like going there. So any thoughts on this are appreciated!

I HAVE NOT FISHED VERMILLION YET. ONE THING I LIKE ABOUT CASS LAKE IS ALL THE FINGER LAKES THAT ARE CONNECTED TO IT. ON A WINDY DAY THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEWHERE TO FISH. IT IS NOT CROWDED AND HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME. AND IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO FISH THAT DAY OR YOU ARE HUNGRY, THE PIKE HOLE BAR AND GRILLE HAS GREAT FOOD AND FRIENDLY PEOPLE INSIDE. IF ANYONE RUNS INTO KEVIN BARTENDING THE BAR TELL THEM YOU KNOW WILD BILL. AND HE WILL PROBALY CHARGE YOU DOUBLE FOR THE BEER, YEEEEE! WE USUALLY GO UP IN THE SPRING AND THAN THE FALL DURING SEPTEMBER. I WISH I HAD THIS FISHING RESOURCE IN MY BACKYARD.

Bill is right about the fishing pressure on Cass, hardly anyone. I spent a week on Cass last year and they have BIG muskies!!! I had one on that was well into the 50's and due to a poor hook set the fish stayed in the lake. Vermillion gets a lot of pressure and although it has big fish it is hard to get on a great spot that has not been touched all day. I would go to Cass again!!!

Thanks!

I have to agree with Wild Bill about the Cass. When it is not working on the big water, you can go to the smaller ones and fish the daylights out of them. Also, the Pikehole is one of my favorite pit stops. Good food, good friends, good fun.

Musky Mike,
Cass has everything you need! I have been fishing the waters of Cass for 15 years and have never had a bad trip. The terrain on Cass and the surrounding lakes makes this fishery ideal for large healthy fish. Big Pike, Musky, Walleye and Bass are abundent. Pike Hole Bar and Grill is Excellent for food and brews. The Lake is never really crowded unless you go around the 4th of July.
