UPGRADES FOR THE 209 X 50 THOMPSON CENTER ARMS MUZZLE LOADER
The sport of muzzle loading has made some major upgrades in the last ten
years. The use of powder kegs and 209 ignition primers makes the weapon
extremely reliable and accurate. Here are some small upgrades that are
available for the gun. An E-Z Tip Extractor is a nice addition for easy
removal of the breech plug without having to disassemble the weapon for
barrel cleaning between shots. And if your gun has a scope there is a
hammer extension available for pulling the hammer back easily without
tangling with the scope.
Start by placing your gun in a good spot to begin disassembly of the
weapon.
Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the two screws from the for end.
When the screws are taken out remove the for end .
With a hammer and a punch remove the pin from the pin hinge hole
Once the pin is out separate the barrel from the guns frame.
Next remove the extractor retaining screw.
Once the screw is removed take the stock extractor out from the barrel.
Now install the new extractor. If you look closely you can see how the
extractor pivots to the side for easy removal of the guns breech. It than
can be flipped back over once the breech has been installed and your
extractor is centered and ready to go.
Her you can see the difference between the factory solid extractor
compared to the upgrade that pivots.
Now install your hammer extension to your trigger. All you need to do is
use an Alan wrench to tighten the upgrade to the trigger.
Once you finish up with putting you gun back together you will find that
these modifications to your weapon are not expensive and easy to install.
And they really are useful at the range or in the field. These parts that
were used are easily accessible in the numerous catalogs that offer
Thompson Center Shooting supplies.
