FISHING / HUNTING WITH A BAROMETER
Recently I have been trying to figure out why some days you go fishing and
you don’t catch a thing and other days one cant go wrong and slam them all
day long. The same with deer hunting. One morning the fields can be full
of deer and some days you will be lucky to see one. Can moon phases and
barometric pressures affect animals feeding and movement patterns? A lot
of today’s professional anglers and musky hunters have been using
barometers and watch moon / sun phases religiously to figure out the best
time to be in the field or on the lake. Anglers have been keeping
extensive log books for the last 15 years and have figured out that
barometric pressure and moon phases can increase your chances at catching
big and large amounts of fish thru there feeding activities. Professionals
have noticed that when barometric pressures are on the rise the fishing
activity slows down. When the pressure drops or declines the fishing
activity turns on.
I have been using a Speedtech Anglers Edge Plus. A couple of the features
that I personally like about this piece of equipment is that it is small
enough to fit in your tackle or hunting bag with out taking up a lot of
room.
There is an alarm when enabled that will go off alerting you when there is
a possibility of a storm on the rise with the barometric readings. My
favorite feature about the Anglers Edge is that one always knows what time
it is and the times are available for the sunrise and sunset. Now duck and
deer hunters can always know when the shooting times are without looking
in the paper or on TV. How many times have you been going hunting and just
forgot to check when the sunrise was because you worked late or went to
bed exhausted from the hunt or fish the day before. Remember one wants to
be legal.
Here are some of the features of the Anglers Edge Plus:
1. Present fish feeding activity scale 1-10
2. 4-hour future fish feeding activity forecast
3. Fish feeding activity based on future sun / moon info thru 2099
4. Barometric air pressure with 24 hour history
5. Sunrise and sunset times
6. Moon phases and positions
7. Weather forecast based on pressure
8. E.L. backlight to view in the dark
Studying sun / moon phases and barometric pressures affecting fish takes a
little time. And setting up your handheld Anglers Edge takes a little
patients till you get used to its features. But I have personally found
this little piece of equipment to be useful to me on the water or in the
field hunting.
