THOMPSON CENTER ARMS
500 MAG KATAHDIN PRO HUNTER
Starting in Indiana during the 2007 Deer hunting season a new rule was
imposed. A hunter was legal to use a rifle during firearm season. Certain
pistol cartridges have been chosen by the State of Indiana that could be
fired out of a rifle barrel. The Indiana DNR web page will show all the
legal cartridges. The cartridge I prefer is the Smith and Wesson 500
Magnum, this round being fired out of the Thompson Center Katahdin Pro
Hunter Stainless Fluted 20” Barrel. All together this weapon is 35” long.
And when you hit your target it is walloped with some serious thump. I
have seen first hand what this round can do to a deer.
This weapon is powerful enough to drop about anything a hunter aims at.
Being the barrel is 20” long it is light and easy to roam the plains or
woods with, not catching on branches and tall weeds. This weapon can be
fired with open sights, scope, red dot or shown here an Eo-tech Halo Sight
System.
This S&W 500 Magnum cartridge is available thru many manufacturers. I
personally have used this gun for deer and boar hunting. It is perfect for
stalking and stand hunting. This spring we are going to find out what it
can do on a Buffalo hunt. Again Thompson Center Arms has come thru with
another quality weapon for hunters. If you own a Encore and are looking
for another barrel for your collection of hunting versatility, this
Katahdin 500 Magnum S&W Stainless 20” Fluted Barrel might be what your
looking for.
